2026, St Louis — This nursery began with a simple but thoughtful goal: create a space that felt soft and feminine for a newborn, while still being practical enough to grow with her for years to come. The inspiration leaned boho and wildflower-inspired…layered, gentle, and whimsical — but grounded enough to avoid feeling overly “babyish” as the years go on.
One of the first design decisions shaped everything that followed. Since mom planned to co-sleep, we skipped a traditional crib entirely and designed the room around a floor bed she had already purchased. That choice allowed us to prioritize flexibility and flow, opening up the room for multiple uses beyond sleep alone.
Function was just as important as aesthetics. This room needed to do it all — a calm place to sleep and nurse, a cozy corner for rocking, and plenty of open space for tummy time, play, and exploration. Every element was chosen with ease in mind. Remote-control sconces provide soft, adjustable lighting for middle-of-the-night feedings without ever leaving the chair. Motorized curtains make nap time effortless, helping the room darken with the push of a button. Easy-reach shelves and low toy storage were intentionally placed so the space can evolve naturally as baby grows into toddlerhood and beyond.
The end result is a nursery that feels calm, cozy, and truly lived-in…not overly styled or precious, but thoughtful and flexible. It’s a space that works for late nights and slow mornings now, and one that will continue to make sense as she grows!
The palette and materials were selected to feel warm, collected, and timeless — a blend of soft florals, muted mauves, and natural wood tones that bring charm without overwhelming the space. Instead of filling the room with excess decor, we focused on thoughtful layers and purposeful pieces that feel calm now and adaptable later.
