Oceanside Lanai
2023, Florida — When my clients reached out about their covered lanai, they knew exactly what was missing — warmth, comfort, and personality. The space didn’t reflect how they wanted to live in their home, and while they weren’t looking for a major renovation, they were ready for it to finally feel inviting. The goal became clear: create a cozy, welcoming retreat through thoughtful styling alone.
With two young daughters, it was important that the space felt relaxed and livable — somewhere the girls could play without constant worry about spills or breakage — while still incorporating details that felt special for the whole family. One of the first additions was a small tabletop fireplace, chosen for its soft, magical ambiance and its ability to double as a s’mores maker for summer evenings and sleepovers. For the girls, we added cushioned hideaway stools that tuck neatly onto the shelf beneath the TV console when not in use — protected from moisture, out of the main traffic flow, and easy to pull out for movie nights or games.
Of course, the space wasn’t just for the kids. Mom and dad wanted to bring in a minimal, coastal Florida feel — on a budget — while keeping several existing elements in place. We preserved their current paint color, flooring, patio furniture, and outdoor heater, and focused on creating cohesion through layered textures, a soft coastal palette, and intentional contrast.
The result is a space that feels connected, comfortable, and complete — achieved with minimal effort on the clients’ end (their number one request). By carefully selecting materials that could withstand Florida weather and styling with purpose, we transformed the lanai into an outdoor nook they’re finally using — and genuinely loving.
