preteen bedroom
2024, St. Louis — We went all the way with this pre-teen boy’s bedroom! He was transitioning from a 9 year old to a pre-teen - a stage of life where everything changes quite rapidly, interests included. So rather than creating a space that an elementary kid would love but a teenager would outgrow, we created a space that would grow and transition through the upcoming phases. A room that could be both fun and sophisticated.
One of the first decisions we made was to color drench the space in a dark navy hue so that the room would appear bigger and have a more upscale feel. To keep the room from feeling broken up, we included the nightstand, dresser, built ins, doors, windows, trim, and even the bedspread in this same navy tone. We kept everything else in an easy-to-swap-out style; framed posters, shelving for toys and tchotchkes, a desk centered around the tv for both gaming and studies, etc. The final touch was - of course - adding lots of LED lighting to set the vibe of a cool teen gamer.
We reused so many of this rooms existing pieces by giving them a paint makeover and the majority of the decor was stuff the boy already had and loved - making this makeover super budget friendly, reigning in at just around $600.
